BMS Campus Celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2026: A Vibrant Display of Unity and Tradition

The BMS Campus student community marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2026 with a vibrant outdoor celebration at Mount Lavinia Children’s Park on 7 April 2026. Organised by the Student Society, this event served as a testament to the campus’s dedication to fostering an inclusive, multicultural environment. By engaging in these cross-cultural experiences, students were able to develop vital social skills, such as communication and mutual understanding, essential for success in today’s diverse world.

The celebrations commenced with the Kiri Uthurana ceremony, a cherished tradition symbolising prosperity, happiness, and new beginnings. This was followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the unveiling of the “Awurudu Table,” laden with traditional sweetmeats and kiribath.

A core element of the day was the Awurudu Kreeda (New Year games). These lively activities fostered a spirit of unity and fun among participants from all faculties. Adding to the cultural depth of the event, the “Awurudu Kumari and Kumara” competition encouraged students to express their cultural identity and take pride in their heritage.

The festivities concluded with an award ceremony to recognise the achievements and commitment of the participating students. BMS Campus extends its sincere gratitude to the organisers and the student body for transforming this celebration into an inspiring and memorable success.
