BMS Campus proudly marked its first ever participation at ProFood ProPack and AgBiz 2026 Exhibition, held from 21–23 August at the BMICH. The Department of Food Science and Nutrition took centre stage with an impressive showcase of 12 innovative food products and packaging materials, developed through the final year research projects of students from the BSc (Hons) Food Science and Nutrition (Clinical Nutrition) and BSc (Hons) Biotechnology programmes. From innovative food formulations to value-added products and novel processing approaches, the exhibition provided a platform for our students to transform research and creativity into solutions with real-world potential.
The response from visitors and industry professionals was truly encouraging, with the showcased products receiving extensive positive feedback and strong interest from potential industry investors. Several industry representatives expressed interest in the commercial potential of the products, including acquiring recipes and adopting the developed processes. Beyond showcasing innovation, the event provided our students with an invaluable opportunity to strengthen their communication, product presentation and professional skills, while interacting and networking with students from state universities, academics, researchers and leading industry professionals.
Adding another achievement to an already successful exhibition, final year food science student Imasha Wickramaarachchi secured Third Place in the 3-Minute Flash Talk (3MT) Challenge, organised by the Institute of Food Science and Technology Sri Lanka (IFTSL) during the exhibition.
Our first participation at ProFood ProPack and AgBiz 2026 was a truly rewarding experience and a significant milestone for BMS Campus. From showcasing innovative student-developed products to engaging with industry professionals and celebrating student achievements, the exhibition highlighted the talent, creativity and potential of our students. We are proud to see their research move beyond the laboratory and classroom into conversations with industry, opening doors for future collaborations, commercialisation and exciting career opportunities.
