Exploring Microbial Frontiers: BMS Campus Hosts Interactive Seminar on Microbial Diversity

On 21 January 2026, the Faculty of Life and Medical Sciences of BMS Campus convened an insightful interactive seminar at Harvard Hall, BMS Colombo Graduate School.

Themed “Microbial Diversity: Shaping our Health, Environment, and Economy,” the event aimed to broaden students’ understanding of the profound influence microorganisms exert on human health, ecological stability, and economic development.

The seminar featured two eminent guest speakers from the School of Geography and Natural Sciences at Northumbria University, UK:

  • Vartul Sangal, Assistant Professor in Cellular and Molecular Sciences.
  • Lynn Dover, Associate Professor.

Both speakers shared their extensive expertise, delivering exceptional knowledge on how microbial diversity can be harnessed for beneficial roles in everyday life. The session was actively attended by students from the Higher Diploma programmes within the Faculty of Life and Medical Sciences, who engaged in discussions regarding the latest advancements in the field.

By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, the seminar successfully raised awareness of the hidden biological world and encouraged students to pursue further research in these vital scientific domains.
