Industrial Visit to Cargo Village – Airline Operations and Omega Line Ltd

As part of the Supply Chain Management module, students from the Bachelor of Business Management programme of BMS Campus undertook an educational visit to Cargo Village, Airline Operations at Bandaranaike International Airport and Omega Line Ltd on 28 October 2025. The visit was organised to enhance students’ understanding of practical applications in logistics and supply chain management, allowing them to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world industry practices.

The day commenced with a tour of Cargo Village, Airline Operations, where students observed the complete cargo handling process, from receiving and processing shipments to final dispatch. They also learned how advanced information technology facilitates efficient logistics operations through automation, real-time tracking, and quality assurance systems. The session provided valuable insights into international air cargo procedures and emphasised the importance of safety, efficiency, and technological integration in aviation logistics.

In the afternoon, students visited Omega Line Ltd., one of Sri Lanka’s leading apparel manufacturers. The company’s management team conducted an informative session on their supply chain and production operations, showcasing how ERP systems and digital solutions streamline procurement, inventory management, and quality control. Students were given a guided tour of the factory and stores, followed by a video presentation highlighting Omega Line’s global presence and commitment to manufacturing excellence.

The visit enriched students’ knowledge of logistics, production management, and technological innovation within supply chains. It underscored how quality assurance and digital transformation enhance competitiveness and operational efficiency in a global business environment.
